Helena Knotkova, PhD is the Director of Research, Institute of Non-invasive Brain Stimulation of New York, Research Division, Department of Pain Medicine and Palliative Care, Beth Israel Medical Center, New York, and Assistant Professor of Neurology, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, New York. Dr. Knotkova has received her degrees in psychology (Doctor of Philosophy, 1987) and biological sciences (PhD, 1994). Her background and training have enabled Dr. Knotkova to adopt a multi-disciplinary approach to the study of patho-physiological mechanisms of pain, and has facilitated her research and implementation of novel treatment strategies in pain management, including tDCS. In addition to being a member of the International Association for the Study of Pain since 1995, and American Pain Society since 2000, Dr. Knotkova also serves as a Section Editor (Neuroscience) for the Journal of Pain Management (JPM), a member of the Editorial Board of Advances in Pain Management, and Open Pain Journal. Dr. Knotkova also served as a Guest Editor of the Special Issue of JPM on Brain Stimulation for the Treatment of Pain (2009). She is the first author and co-author of numerous peer reviewed publications, chapters, and presentations at international meetings. |
